Wanli Large Dragon Bowl - Ming Chinese porcelain
The bowl is thinly potted with rounded sides flaring to a gently everted mouth rim.
This form is typical of the Ming Wanli period. The exterior is painted in cobalt of deep sapphire-blue tones with two striding four-clawed dragons in pursuit of 'flaming pearls' above typical Ming cloud formations encircling the foot. The interior medallion is decorated with a further dragon amidst cloud scrolls chasing a flaming pearl. Comes with old Japanese wood box.
Condition good with one old gold Japanese repair to a hairline fracture to one side.
