Ming transitional period Wucai / Ko-Akae dish.
17th century, circa 1640
The dish is decorated in the interior with a landscape scene with trees, flowers, boat, figures in boat and a poem.
The poem information:
The text on the item is from the Ode on the Red Cliff (Chibi Fu), a famous prose poem written by the Song Dynasty scholar Su Shi (Su Dongpo).
The text is written vertically and read from right to left: [1]
- Column 1 (Far right): 前赤壁之賦 (Qián Chìbì zhī Fù) — "Former Ode to the Red Cliff".
- Column 2: 壬戌之秋七月 (Rén xū zhī qiū qī yuè) — "In the autumn of the ren-xu year, the seventh month".
- Column 3: 泛舟遊於赤壁 (Fàn zhōu yóu yú Chì bì) — "...boating at the Red Cliff".
- Column 4: 之下清風徐来 (Zhī xià qīng fēng xú lái) — "...beneath [it], a fresh breeze came gently".
- Column 5 (Far left): 水波不興挙酒 (Shuǐ bō bù xīng jǔ jiǔ) — "The water's surface was unruffled. Raising the wine [cup]..."
